Construction: Private Owners
Helping private owners construct a better California
For more than 25 years, our construction lawyers have represented private owners in a wide range of construction transactions. We believe that good contracts with all parties create the “foundation” of a construction project. Well-written contracts allocate risk, responsibility and reward – and are the first line of defense against disputes.
Our lawyers are familiar with the standard American Institute of Architects, Associated General Contractors, Design-Build Institute of America and National Society of Professional Engineer contract documents, among others. However, we often customize contracts to meet the needs of our private owner clients.
We also draft custom contracts for both traditional and alternative project delivery models – like construction management at risk, design/build and integrated project delivery. In particular, we offer private owners an unparalleled concentration of experience within the lean project delivery model. We are active in the Lean Construction Institute.
For example, we developed a customized contract model to support lean project delivery for Sutter Health, a major Northern California healthcare organization. As special construction counsel to Sutter Health, we provide a full range of legal services in support of their $5.5 billion design and construction program.
Our lawyers represent the interests of private owners in construction disputes before a wide range of state and federal courts, as well as relevant administrative tribunals and boards of contract appeals. We offer negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation services.
