MCDONOUGH HOLLAND & ALLEN PC EXPANDS CONSTRUCTION AND REAL ESTATE PRACTICES

SACRAMENTO, Dec. 13, 2007 – McDonough Holland & Allen PC, a leading Northern California law firm representing both private and public sector clients, adds associates Joel Darrington and John Shipley to its Construction Practice Group and Brad Nakano to its Real Estate Practice Group. Darrington, a transactional attorney, joins from New York’s LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP (now Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP); Shipley, a litigator, previously practiced at San Francisco-based Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP; and Nakano, a transactional attorney, joins from Sproul Trost LLP in Roseville, Calif.

“Our construction and real estate practices have historically been powerful forces within the firm and are increasingly important components of our representation of key clients in both the public and private sectors. It is the seamless integration and interplay of these disciplines that help our clients realize their business goals and extract the greatest value from their legal budgets,” said Jeffry R. Jones, managing shareholder at McDonough. “Joel, John and Brad bring diverse, core experience that continues to strengthen our offerings.”

Darrington brings substantial transactional experience, representing organizations of all sizes in structuring construction contracts or addressing issues with design firms, construction companies and real estate owners for a variety of projects, such as performing arts centers, museums, academic campuses, schools, cultural facilities and office buildings. He has negotiated and drafted many construction management agreements, including those structured as guaranteed maximum price, lump sum or not-at-risk agency agreements, and he has facilitated the legal aspects of construction project close-outs.

Darrington received his J.D. from New York University School of Law (2001) and his B.A., summa cum laude, Phi Kappa Phi, in humanities from Brigham Young University (1998).

Shipley provides litigation and counseling services to owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, sureties and public entities in all aspects of general construction law and complex business litigation. He brings substantial arbitration, trial and appellate experience and has been successful in resolving lawsuits prior to trial through alternative dispute resolution.

Shipley earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law (2003), where he was founder and president of the Japanese Law Society, and his B.A. in economics from the University of Chicago (1996).
