Sutter Health's Former General Counsel Gary Loveridge Returns to McDonough Holland & Allen PC

SACRAMENTO/OAKLAND, Calif., January 12, 2009 – Gary F. Loveridge, a 35-year veteran health care attorney, rejoins McDonough Holland & Allen PC after serving as senior vice president and general counsel for Sutter Health in Sacramento. Formerly McDonough’s managing shareholder and Health Care Practice Group leader, Loveridge’s return as of counsel underscores the firm’s continued growth and strong reputation in the field of health care law.

Loveridge joined McDonough as a litigator out of law school in 1972 and, after a few years, began devoting his practice to health care clients, such as Sutter Community Hospital and Roseville Community Hospital. He represented health care, managed care and hospital clients in litigation and counseled on acquisition, joint venture, affiliation and contract agreements between hospitals and health care systems. He rose to become head of the firm’s Health Care Practice Group in 1982 and served as the firm’s managing shareholder from 1990-1992.

Loveridge went in-house for Sutter Health in 1992, where he provided legal and overall business counsel in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, risk management, regulatory compliance, governance and nonprofit tax exempt matters. He was also a member of Sutter Health's senior management team where he contributed to the development and implementation of Sutter Health’s strategic plans.

Loveridge is an active member of local, state and national health care attorney associations. He served as president of the California Society for Health Care Attorneys and is a member of the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys. He earned his J.D. from University of California, Davis, Law School (1972) and his A.B. from Stanford University (1965), taking time after his schooling at Stanford to serve as captain in the U.S. Marine Corps.
