Poole was recognized by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization (BLS) as a specialist in taxation for 30 years. Poole was one of 26 esteemed specialists honored for contributing three decades of distinguished expertise and influence in their field of law at the State Bar of California’s Annual Meeting. “Don’s statewide influence as a tax and estate planning and probate attorney has been recognized for decades. His BLS specialist distinction, especially given the Bar’s rigorous qualification program, is an attribute few can claim,” said Jeffry Jones, managing shareholder at McDonough. “With the number of tax lawyers in California, crossing this 30-year threshold reaffirms Don’s rank as a ‘best of the best’ in the state. He primarily serves as an advisor to large and complex estates that require creative solutions, including sophisticated charitable giving techniques. On the corporate side, Poole handles partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, limited-liability companies, and other general tax matters. A frequent speaker and author on tax and estate matters, Poole’s memberships include the American Bar Association – Tax Section, Real Property, Probate and Trust Sections; the State Bar of California – Tax Section; and the Sacramento County Bar Association– Tax and Probate Sections. Poole received his J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of the Law (1967), his LL.M. in taxation from New York University (1968) and an A.B. from University of California, Berkeley (1964).
