Press ReleasesMcDonough Holland & Allen Adds IRS Attorney Alan Chun SACRAMENTO, Apr. 1, 2008 – Sacramento law firm McDonough Holland & Allen PC adds Internal Revenue Service (IRS) attorney Alan G. Chun as of counsel in its Business Services Practice Group, where he will focus on estate planning and probate law. Chun brings the firm 38 years of estate and gift taxation experience from the IRS. “Alan’s experience as an IRS insider makes him a tremendous asset to our clients and brings to our estate planning and probate practice a unique perspective. Alan's addition is a testament to that commitment.” Chun is a well known and respected leader in the areas of complex estate tax issues and tax controversy. During his lengthy tenure with the IRS, working in both its Sacramento and San Francisco offices, Chun focused on wealth transfer taxation (i.e. federal estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxation), valuation of closely held entities, family limited partnerships and limited liability corporations, trust taxation, and abusive tax avoidance trusts. Chun earned 15 performance and management awards from the IRS for his outstanding level of service and exceptional expertise in his field. He has presented extensively on gift and estate tax, policy and law changes to regional professional organizations, such as the California State Bar; Sacramento Estate Planning Council and its Technical Forum; El Dorado County Bar Association; California Estate Planning Council; California Probate Referees Association; and State Controller’s Division of Tax Administration. He has also served as a guest lecturer at California State University, Sacramento. Heavily involved in the greater Sacramento community, Chun was a member of the Roseville Transportation Commission for eight years and its chair for four years (1994-1998), a former board member of the Dry Creek Conservancy and a former member of the Roseville General Plan Update Committee. Chun received his J.D. from University of California, Hastings College of Law (1968) and his B.A. in history from the University of Washington, Seattle (1965).
