MCDONOUGH CONTINUES TO EXPAND OAKLAND OFFICE PUBLIC LAW OFFERINGS WITH ATTORNEY ADDITION

OAKLAND, Calif., August 13, 2007 -- McDonough Holland & Allen PC, a leading California law firm representing both private and public sector clients, adds senior associate J. Leah Castella to its Public Law Practice Group in Oakland.

“We already consider ourselves fortunate to count published authors and experienced city attorneys as members of our Public Law practice, and with the addition of Leah, it is clear this tradition continues. Leah comes to us with significant personal involvements and a deep concern for the community that is evidenced by her active volunteer work,” said Michelle Marchetta Kenyon, managing shareholder in McDonough’s Oakland, Calif. office.

Castella joins McDonough Holland & Allen from the San Francisco office of Meyers Nave, where she represented public entities in litigation and appellate work. Prior to her time at Meyers, Castella spent seven years as a litigation associate at the San Francisco office of Bingham McCutchen. She has experience in a range of public law matters, such as successfully defending the legitimacy of a city’s “Transit Occupancy Tax” in California Court of Appeals and drafting summary judgment motions defending the legitimacy of a city’s 911 fee. She also has extensive background in Indian law, and has advised clients on the land to trust process, sovereign immunity issues, the Indian Civil Rights Act, and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

In addition to her legal work, Castella makes time to give back to the community. She is co-founder and executive director of the Women’s Debate Institute, which encourages young women’s involvement in inter-scholastic debate, is a coach for the mock trial program at Thurgood Marshall High School, located in the Bayview-Hunters Point area of San Francisco, and is a coach for the Jessup Public International Law Moot Court team at Boalt. Castella also serves on the boards of both the Bar Association of San Francisco Barristers Club and the Law Academy Advisory Board. She received her J.D., with honors, from The University of Texas Law School (1999) and her B.S. in philosophy from Lewis and Clark College (1995).
