McDONOUGH HOLLAND & ALLEN'S ZACHARY SMITH NAMED TO EXCLUSIVE AMERICAN BOARD OF TRIAL ADVOCATES

SACRAMENTO, Nov. 29, 2006 – McDonough Holland & Allen PC (MHA), a leading Northern California law firm representing both public and private sector clients, announced that shareholder and litigator Zachary Smith was selected to the membership of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).  ABOTA, a 6,000-member organization of the nation’s leading trial lawyers, is dedicated to preserving American citizens’ rights to trial by jury in civil cases.  Smith was invited to join the group’s Sacramento Chapter after undergoing a rigorous nomination and selection process, including extensive review of trial records resulting in favorable client verdicts and an affirmative vote by at least 75 percent of the local chapter membership.

“Affiliation with ABOTA is a true distinction in the industry and a testament to the fact that Zac is a leader in the trial community and highly respected by his peers,” said Jeffry Jones, managing shareholder at MHA.  “We at the firm are very proud of Zac and know he will make great contributions as part of this distinguished organization.”

Smith has nearly 30 years of trial and alternative dispute resolution experience in a broad range of matters, ranging from complex insurance to construction defect to professional liability, and recently he secured a multi-million dollar jury verdict in a financial fraud and embezzlement case.  Smith’s clients include public entities, corporations and individuals.  He has served as a judge pro tem, arbitrator and mediator for the Placer County Superior and Municipal Courts, Nevada County Superior Court, El Dorado County Superior Court, and American Arbitration Association.

“ABOTA promotes justice through the civil jury trial system and I am honored to be selected as a member of this distinguished group of the nation’s most influential advocates,” said Smith.  “My involvement would not be possible without the support of my colleagues at MHA and the community at large.”

Smith received a J.D. from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (1977) and a B.A. from Stanford University (1973).
