McDONOUGH HOLLAND & ALLEN PC SEES SIX PROMINENT LAWYERS NAMED BEST LAWYERS IN AMERICA FOR 2007

SACRAMENTO, December 6, 2006 – Joseph Coomes, James Leet, Jim Clarke, Stephen Goff, Edward Quinn and David Spottiswood have all been recognized as top practitioners in four categories as published in Best Lawyers in America 2007.

Coomes, a shareholder in the firm’s Public Law group, was selected by his peers for inclusion in the Land Use & Zoning Law section of Best Lawyers.  His practice is focused on redevelopment, land use and planning law, including military base closure and reuse.  He has successfully negotiated some of the largest and most difficult urban, mixed-use redevelopment projects in California, including San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens and downtown San Jose’s Silicon Valley Financial Center.  Coomes received his L.L.B from University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law (1957).

Included in the Tax Law section of Best Lawyers, Leet concentrates on all aspects of corporate, partnership and personal income tax planning.  He is a shareholder in the firm’s Business Services group; a member of McDonough's Board of Directors; and the firm's Secretary.  He advises clients on issues relating to real estate exchanges, structure, formation and operation of partnerships and limited liability companies, and planning and implementation of corporate reorganization and business acquisitions.  Leet is a frequent speaker and author on business and tax issues.  He received his LL.M. from University of Florida (1981) and his J.D. from University of Santa Clara Law School (1979).

Clarke, also named in Best Lawyers’ Tax Law section, is a shareholder in the firm’s Business Services group and a member of the Board.  He provides general corporate and tax counsel to a wide variety of private companies, focusing on transactional tax planning, general business tax planning and client representation in federal, state and local tax controversy matters.  Clarke received his LL.M. from University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (1989) and his J.D. from University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (1988).

Goff, featured in the Commercial Litigation and Health Care Law sections of the book, is a shareholder and the lead litigation attorney in the firm’s Health Care group.  His work includes handling contract and quasi-contract disputes between health care providers and payers and developing contracting and operational strategies.  Goff received his J.D. from University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law (1984).

A shareholder and Chair of the Board of Directors, Quinn focuses on land use and redevelopment law and will be included in Best Lawyers’ Land Use & Zoning Law section.  In addition to representing cities, counties and private developers, he advises domestic corporation clients on foreign investment and has assisted foreign clients with real estate and plant and equipment investments in the U.S.  Quinn received his LL.M. from Harvard Law School (1982) and his J.D. from University of Michigan, School of Law (1977).

Spottiswood, distinguished as one of the attorneys listed in Best Lawyers for ten years or longer, is included in the Real Estate Law section.  His practice focuses on real property transactions of all kinds, joint ventures, partnerships, and limited liability companies.  Spottiswood received his J.D. from University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law (1966).
