Professional Experience
Julie joined McDonough Holland & Allen in 1996 after a two-year clerkship with federal district judge, Milton L. Schwartz.
Julie’s practice focuses on providing employment advice to and defending private and public employers in all aspects of employment including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, leave issues, discipline, hiring and termination. She also conducts investigations, drafts contracts, handbooks, and personnel rules. Additionally, Julie counsels and trains managers in best practices to achieve employment law compliance and to avoid employment-related conflicts and litigation.
Julie also handles unfair competition actions involving solicitation issues and claims of misappropriation of trade secrets and confidential information.
Julie also defends business owners against claims for disability discrimination resulting from access barriers.
Representative Matters
Representing major security firm in defending against claims of unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets and breach of contract.
Defending numerous public and private employers in wrongful termination, discrimination, and harassment actions in both state and federal court.
Defending public employer in collective action for unpaid overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Representing client in negotiating a comprehensive agreement with a major disability rights advocacy organization for removal of access barriers and modifications to policies and procedures for accommodating the disabled.
Represented public employer in three related wrongful termination actions in federal court. Successfully obtained summary judgment in two of the actions and summary adjudication in one action. Negotiated favorable settlement on remaining claims.
